About Us
Who are we?
We are Nate and Jessie Rogers. Nate is a Firefighter and Jessie is a Registered Nurse. We have many years of serving the community between us in the medical and emergency fields. We were very content in our respective professions up until we had children. We now have two beautiful children and we live in Choctaw; we both grew up in the area and wanted to plant our family roots here. Education has been a large topic in our household and the conversation started to get even heavier as a decision had to be made as to whether our children were going to attend public schools or to start a homeschool.
Our prayers were answered when we started to learn about Acton schools. Since there was not an Acton school on the East side of Oklahoma City, we decided we should bring this exquisite approach to education to the area. We now are the co-founders of Broad-winged: An Acton Academy a Private School in Choctaw. Broad-winged is one of over 300 Acton schools all over the world, and this number is rapidly increasing. The methods employed in these schools takes a Montessori approach and elevates it to all ages.
To share a little of our story we both went to public schools and then completed higher education in University. We both agreed that the ability and desire to learn was never taught, more importantly that it cannot be taught, it was to be found. It can only be found when a Learner is given autonomy and responsibility; otherwise, education is a passive, compulsory effort. We wanted our children to find their calling in life and realize their full potential. This is not something that we saw happening in our culture and believe it is something for which we can make a positive change.
